what is the difference between woven and nonwoven fabric
Non-woven Fabrics

Nonwoven materials are not really fabrics though they give us a feel of being fabrics.
Non wovens can be formed in the fiber stage itself. The fibers are laid one layer after another and a suitable bonding technique is used for fabric formation.
They are not made by weaving or knitting and do not require converting the fibers to yarn.Nonwoven fabrics are broadly defined as sheet or web structures bonded together by entangling fiber or filaments (and by perforating films) mechanically, thermally, or chemically.
There is no interlacing of yarn for internal cohesion as in a woven fabric. They are flat, porous sheets that are made directly from separate fibers or from molten plastic or plastic film.
Felt is the most common fabric that we refer to as “non-woven”. Felting involves agitating the fibers in a solution until they start to tangle and interlock to form a dense, non-stretchy fabric.
Non woven textiles are also used widely in our day to day activities. For example the fabric used in interior of cars(Automotive car upholstery nonwoven felt fabric Video), sanitary pads, diapers, promotional bags, carpets, cushioning items etc.
Non-woven Characteristics
1、Moisture
2、Breathable
3、Flexible
4、Lightweight
5、Non-combustion
6、Easily biodegradable, non-toxic irritating,
7、Colorful, inexpensive, recyclable
8、Has a short process,production speed, high output
9、Low cost, versatile
Woven Fabrics
Woven are fabrics that are formed after yarn formation and using a suitable technique, which may be interlacing of warp and weft, to form a fabric.
Weaving is the very common method of making fabrics, and it has been used since ages to make different fabrics. In weaving, two or more threads run in perpendicular to each other, to make a pattern called warp and waft.
Warp threads run up and down the length of the fabric while waft threads run sideways across the fabric and this weaving of the two threads creates a woven pattern call fabric.
Weaving involves at least 2 sets of threads - one set is long-ways on the loom (warp) and one set runs over and under the warp to make the fabric (that’s the weft).
Weaving also requires a structure of some sort to hold tension on the warp - that’s the loom. Knitting and crocheting are made from one long thread looped around itself, using a hook (crochet) or 2 needles (knitting).
Knitting machines perform the same action as a hand knitter but using a series of needles. Hand crochet does not have a machine equivalent. Most woven fabrics have limited amounts of stretch unless you are pulling them diagonally (“on the bias”), whereas knitted and crocheted fabrics can have tremendous amounts of stretch.
Most of the fabrics we use in day to day application are woven viz apparels, draperies, bed linen, towels, hanker chiefs etc.
Four Differences Between Woven and Nonwoven Fabric
1. Material
Woven and nonwoven fabric has great differences in the raw material that the woven fabric is made with cotton, wool, silk, linen, ramie, hemp, leather and etc.
while the nonwoven is made out of polypropylene (abbreviated to PP), PET, PA, viscose, acrylic fibers, HDPE, PVC and etc.
2. Manufacturing Process
A woven fabric is done by interlacement of weft and warp threads. Its name itself depicts its meaning 'Woven'.( done by the process of 'weaving')
Non-woven fabrics are long fibers that have been bonded together very well while using some kind of heat, chemical, or mechanical treatment.
3. Durability
The woven cloth more durable.
The nonwovens less durable.
4. Usage
Example of woven fabrics: All the fabrics used in apparels, upholstery.
Example of non woven: Used in bags, facial masks, diapers, wallpaper, industrial filters, shopping bags and so on.
